Where it all Began
Future of Hope Family Ministry has been serving in Los Pinos and surrounding communities since 2014, but the foundation for this work was laid years earlier.
Molly Hornsby first came to Honduras in 2011 as a short-term missionary, returning again in 2012. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013, she felt called to move to Honduras full-time. Over the next year and a half, she served with a local ministry, building relationships with youth and families in Los Pinos and gaining a deeper understanding of both the needs and the strength of the community. During this time, God began shaping a vision for something more.
In late 2014, that calling led to the founding of Future of Hope Family Ministry, a nonprofit organization committed to serving not only at-risk youth, but their families as well. From the beginning, the vision has been to strengthen families as a whole—believing they are the key to lasting change for the next generation.
To help break cycles of poverty, the ministry focuses primarily on education. This includes school sponsorship for students whose families cannot afford school costs, as well as free tutoring programs for children who have fallen behind in overcrowded classrooms. The ministry also provides access to mental health support through a licensed Christian psychologist and offers emergency assistance—including a lunch program—to meet urgent, tangible needs within the community. In every program and interaction, the goal is not only to serve, but to share the hope and truth of the Gospel in a personal and meaningful way.
What began with helping one family quickly grew—to seven, then 25 within the first year, and 50 the next year. Today, the ministry supports the education of approximately 250 students each year and reaches many more through its additional programs. In addition to Los Pinos, the ministry now serves families in nearby communities including El Tablón, El Jícaro, and Suntule.
As the ministry has grown, so has the team. Local leaders have stepped into key roles, including dedicated teachers from the community who now invest directly in the next generation. With a strong commitment to community empowerment, the ministry is also intentionally developing future leaders—working closely with young women who have graduated from the sponsorship program and are now being equipped to serve others.
From the very beginning, God has been faithful to guide and sustain this work. With gratitude for all that has been done, we look ahead with hope and expectation for what is still to come.
